National Foundation Day of Japan

February 11th is celebrated as Japan’s National Foundation Day (Kenkoku Kinen no hi / 建国記念の日). This date, which Japan emerged as a nation, is actually based on an old legend chronicled in the ancient texts. Of which, it was a day of Emperor Jimmu’s enthronement as the first emperor of Japan and the founder of the Imperial line.
