Blackcabbit's World

Blackcabbit (aka. Dionnie Takahashi) is an illustrator living in Japan. She loves drawing whimsical animal characters, as well as doing handmade crafts to beautify the world she lives in.

Welcome to me life…

Hello, my name is Dionnie TAKAHASHI (aka. BLACKCABBIT).

In 2002, I graduated from University of Central England in Birmingham with a BA (HONS) in Multimedia Art, which was based in Singapore. Though my major was animation, my medium of choice is digital painting. Of which, I used to create adorable and heartwarming illustrations.

I’m constantly learning new ways to improve my drawing and storytelling skills so that I can make my characters more expressive, and eventually to achieve the dream of becoming a children’s book author-illustrator one day!

In January 2009, I was married to a really sweet Japanese guy. With a weak grasp of the language, I dauntlessly lugged my two feline buddies and moved our lives to Japan.

Japan, a paradise filled with all sort of art & craft goodies, will definitely inspire any artist to take on a new adventure and explore different ways in art-making. For one who is really comfortable with pencil and computer, I strive to be as versatile as possible so that my work will continue to evolve and diversify. Well, to this unfamiliar part of the world, here I come!

    Hi Dionnie!

YOU ARE SO TALENTED! I came across your site while web-browsing and was blown away!
I understand you are swamped right now, but when you have time I’d love to hear from you. I am thinking of making some modern things out of traditional antique silk kimonos (not whole new creations- just slightly modifying them as dusters or long flowing coats- to wear over western clothing. )

I only need three of them, and there is no tight deadline. I am using them for a styling idea I’m working on. You will be promoted and given credit in future blogs, film and all media.

If you don’t have time for commissions, do you know a creative person in Tokyo or Yokohama who would like to do such a project? I am grateful for any help.

      Dearest Lynn,

Thank you very much for thinking so highly of me. I am really flattered (and wished that I can give you a big hug right now) but I am not able to take on your project. I like to be the first to admit that I am still a novice in the area of sewing and handicraft makings. With my two little ones demanding every inch of me, I do not feel comfortable to commit to the project right now. And since I am not active in the art community here in Japan, I am not able to recommend anybody else. I am sorry that I have disappointed you. I wish you all the best. Once again, thanks Lynn. Hi Dionnie,

I am trying to find a family and a baby to film the Erabitori game with between 26th April and 9th May in Japan (preferably near Kyoto). I saw your blog page on the Erabitori so I understand that it sometimes happens alongside the baby’s 1st birthday celebrations. Do you know anyone due to be performing this game during these dates? Or do you have any ideas of how I could try to find a suitable family that would be willing to let us film them? If you can provide any help at all it would be hugely appreciated. Please email me and I can send you more information and details.

      Dearest Laura,
I am sorry that I am not aware of any children turning one year old around that period. My daughter just turn ONE a few months ago, but we did not do the Erabitori event for her. I dont have a lot of friends, mostly mamatomo (mothers from my 4-year-old son’s class) and church friends, I do not know anyone in Kyoto. I am sorry that I cannot be more helpful. I really hope you can find a family for your film in Kyoto soon. >_<

    Hello Dionnie,

Thank you for the details about Nippori Town. Would you be able to direct me to a store in Tokyo that sells Japanese woven yarn-dyed fabrics?

Hello Dionnie: I would like to purchase something from your store and was wondering if you accept international money orders because I do not have a pay pal account? Would you let me know? I would really appreciate it. Sincerely yours and happy new year….Mrs. Lamar Mendiola from Houston, TX, USA

      Dearest Mendiola,
Blessed New year to you and thank you for your interest in my store items. I regret to say that currently I can only accept Paypal. The reason is that I have no idea how to cash in the international money order in my Japanese Bank. The last time, I had a hard time trying to deposit my cheque/check with them. Sigh, the Japanese banks here can be really conservative. Sorry for the inconveniences caused.
